According to the website for the Florida Police Accreditation Coalition, accreditation as it applies to law enforcement is defined as the following:
“Accreditation, as it applies to law enforcement, is a process whereby a law-enforcement agency is given approval by an official review board, after the agency has met specific standards deemed appropriate for the mission of all law-enforcement agencies.”
In a nutshell, not even law-enforcement agencies are perfect. They have to endure the same rigmarole we all do when it comes to safety and ensuring they’re adhering to set standards. But though it may seem time-consuming and a hassle on the surface, accreditation is as necessary in the law-enforcement industry as it is anywhere else. In fact, considering the people in law enforcement look out for the needs of others on a constant basis, accreditation is quite possibly most important within this industry.
The Florida Police Accreditation Coalition exists for this reason. It was formed in 1989 and provides members the opportunity to network with each other, receiving support and sharing resources among their fellow officers. All current members receive the most up-to-date information concerning state and national laws, as well training to ensure they’re compliant with these laws and standards.
Members of the FLA-PAC meet three times per year. As a company that understands how important it is to ensure compliance, IDS is excited to be attending the next conference, which begins tomorrow in Stuart, Fla. We look forward to meeting with agencies who share our goals for compliance, and are eager to learn even more about the inner-workings of the law-enforcement industry!
